Sospeso performs Pierre
Boulez's Le Marteau Sans Maître on March
5 with Julia Bentley.
Since completing apprenticeships with the Santa Fe Opera and the Chicago Lyric Opera, mezzo-soprano Julia Bentley has appeared with opera companies throughout the country, and has been featured as an oratorio soloist with George Manahan, Raymond Leppard, Oliver Knussen,
Pierre Boulez
and Robert Shaw. She performs in Chicago with Mostly Music, CUBE, the Contemporary Chamber Players, the Orion Ensemble, Pinotage, Ensemble Noamnesia, the Chicago Chamber Musicians, and Chicago Opera Theater.
Her frequent collaborations with Cliff Colnot have included the premiere of John Eaton's opera
Antigone, upon silence
by George Benjamin for the MusicNOW series at Symphony Center, and
Le Marteau sans Maître with members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in honor of Pierre Boulez's 70th birthday.
This season will include performances with Vinko Globokar, Marta Ptaszynska, and Mr. Boulez in Chicago and New York.
Ms. Bentley is on the voice faculty at Northern Illinois University.
