Founded in Seattle in 1995 by Joshua Cody and Kirk Noreen, Ensemble Sospeso moved to
New York in 1999. With a core of 21 players culled from New York's finest musicians,
the group is one of the few ensembles in the United States to regularly perform large
chamber music compositions by today's most celebrated composers. The group's many
achievements have included first New York performances of composers such as Helmut
Lachenmann, Brian Ferneyhough and others, as well as tributes to Pierre Boulez, Gyorgy
Kurtag and Esa-Pekka Salonen.
