Sospeso presents Friedrich Wilckens'Dance in the Moon at the July 19 Lincoln Center Festival 2000 theremin concert with thereminist Lydia Kavina.

Little is known of Friedrich Wilckens.  He was born on April 13, 1899, in the Leizen district of Austria. Wilckens was a professional pianist as well as a prolific composer of instrumental works and operas. He worked in Vienna and Berlin, and was the accompanist for the dancer and pantomime artist Harald Kreutzberg.

In 1987, the Vienna State Library acquired four cases of material of this little-known composer, including numerous original manuscripts and unfinished drafts of works—including two operas, The Eternal Circle and The Revenge of the Scorned Lover—as well as press clipping and reviews of performances of his works.

Wilckens wrote Dance in the Moon in 1933.  This score is found in the Rosen archives at the Caramoor Center for the Arts in Katonah, New York.
