Sospeso performs music by Maria Cecilia Villanueva on the American Voices concert on February 10, 2006, part of the Americas Society Fortieth Anniversary Celebration.   

She studied piano with with Leticia Corral and Elizabeth Westerkamp and performed numerous concerts as a soloist in her native Argentina. Composition studies ensued, at the National University of La Plata with Mariano Etkin. She won second prize in the Young Composers Competition 1988 sponsored by the National University of La Plata and the Catalonian Composers Association, Barcelona, Spain; the prize of the "WDR Forum Jünger Komponisten" 1989, sponsored by the Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln, Germany; the International Composition Competition "Elizabeth Schneider" prize in 2001, in Freiburg, Germany. She was a grantee in 1989 and again in 1990 at the Summer Composition Workshop for Young Composers of the Camping Musical de Bariloche leaded by Gerardo Gandini, Bariloche, Argentina, as well as a grantee of the Goethe Institut Buenos Aires for the composition seminar with Nicolaus A. Huber organized by the Goethe Institut Montevideo, Uruguay, June 1993. Other grants include the 1994/95 Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart, and the 1996 Künstlerhof Schreyahn, Germany.

Her commissions include the Freiburger Schlagzeug Ensemble 1995, Donaueschinger Musiktage 1996, Musik Biennale Berlin 1997, New Music Society of Hannover, Germany; the Rümlingen Festival 1997 and 1999, Switzerland.

Her music has been played at major festivals and contemporary music series in Europe and Latin America, including, among others, Westdeutscher Rundfunk Forum Junger Komponisten, Köln 1989; Pro Musica Nova 1992, Bremen; VII and X Latinamerican Music Festival 1993/1998, Caracas, Venezuela; Ciclo de Abono de la Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires, Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires, 1993; Musiktriennale Köln 1994; ISCM World Music Days 1995 Germany; Musica Nova Series 1995, Leipzig; NovAntiqua Series 1996, Köln; Donaueschinger Musiktage 1996; Wien Modern Festival 1996; Musik Biennale Berlin, 1997; "Neue Musik Rümlingen" Festival, Switzerland, 1997 and 1999; "Sonidos de las Américas" Festival, New York, USA, 1998; "Frau Musica Nova" Festival, Köln, 1998; Forum Neue Musik, Frankfurt 1999; Young.euro.classic Festival, Berlin, 2001; Europäisches Musikmonat Basel 2001, Switzerland; 4° Latinamerican Composers Meeting, Belo Horizonte, Brazil, 2002. During 1998 and 1999 she gave a composition seminar at the University School of Music of Montevideo, Uruguay.

Currently, she's a researcher on musical analysis and assistant professor of composition at the National University of La Plata.
