Sospeso performs Richard Einhorn's Voices of Light at the World Financial Center on February 16 and 17, 2006.

With numerous film scores, song cycles, chamber works, and a ballet to his credit, Richard Einhorn recently turned his attention to Joan of Arc and the realm of opera and oratorio. In Voices of Light, his first work composed for release on Sony Classical, Einhorn combines voices -- particularly those of the highly acclaimed group Anonymous 4 -- and amplified instrumental ensemble to celebrate the life and work of the French saint. Inspired by the silent film The Passion of Joan of Arc, the libretto for Voices of Light is made up of a patchwork of texts, visions, and reflections drawn largely from the writing of medieval women mystics.

Richard Einhorn has been composing full-time since 1982. His works have been heard at Lincoln Center, Saratoga Performing Arts Center and other major venues throughout the world. Red Angels, a ballet to Einhorn's music with choreography by Ulysses Dove, is in the repertory of the New York City Ballet. Einhorn's credits as a film composer include scores for the 1992 Academy Award-winning documentary short Educating Peter, Arthur Penn's thriller Dead of Winter, John Cole's Darrow (for the PBS series American Playhouse), starring Kevin Spacey, and Radha Bharadwaj's political drama Closet Land. Einhorn also scored Wild by Law, a 1991 Academy Award nominee for Best Documentary Feature.

Before composing full-time, Einhorn worked as a record producer. In 1977, he produced a recording of Meredith Monk's music and later, with CBS Masterworks (Sony Classical), he produced recordings for such artists as Yo-Yo Ma, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Isaac Stern, and others. His production of the Bach Cello Suites performed by Yo-Yo Ma won a Grammy for Best Instrumental Performance.

Einhorn began composing music at the age of 15 as a founding member of Alfonso, a multi-media ensemble that included the composer John Luther Adams and many others. In 1975, Einhorn graduated summa cum laude from Columbia University, having studied composition and electronic music with Jack Beeson, Vladimir Ussachevsky and Mario Davidovsky.
