Sospeso premieres a new work by Chris Arrell, All Fall Down,
for soprano and ensemble, at the Sospeso
Cabaret at studioseven on April 16, 2005. All Fall Down
is a Fromm Commission.
Chris Arrell holds
degrees from Cornell University (DMA 02), the University of Texas
at Austin (MM 98), and the University of Oregon (BM 95), and attended
Columbia University as an Exchange Scholar. He has participated
in composition master classes at the Stockhausen Courses in Kuerten
(03), the Music99 Festival (99); the Aspen Festival of Music (97)
and the Oregon Bach Festival Composers Symposium, and was selected
for a residency at the Atlantic Center for the Arts (99). His principal
teachers are Tristan Murail, Roberto Sierra,
Steven Stucky, and Dan Welcher.
Arrell’s music has been performed across the US by ensembles such as Bent Frequency, Ensemble Green, newear, Thamyris, and CCCP, and broadcast internationally, including BBC3. Honors include commissions from Music at the Anthology (04), Spivey Hall (03), and the Fromm Foundation at Harvard University (01); fellowships from Cornell (98-02), the University of Texas-Austin (95-98), and the University of Oregon (94); and awards from the League of Composers/ISCM (03), SCI/ASCAP (98), and ASCAP/Morton Gould (97).
