Olga Neuwirth, the young Austrian composer, is regarded as one of the most exciting musical voices of her generation, and these four works, performed in America for the first time, show why:  from the fiery piano concerto Locus... to a musical homage to the World Trade Center architect Daniel Libeskind, Torsion, performed by its dedicatee, French bassoonist Pascal Gallois.

On the music of Olga Neuwirth, Stefan Drees writes, "Behind the baffling wealth of sound patterns lies a systematic deconstruction of everyday acoustic experience. Here, many things familiar from daily life are sharply distorted and put into new contexts. The less recognizable the sounds become, the more susceptible they and their tonal qualities become to the listeners' own associations. It's because the composer often resorts to extreme means to achieve this effect that her music is so interesting and exciting."

Sospeso devotes an entire evening to the music of this fascinating composer in America's first retrospective concert of her work.

This concert is partially funded through the generosity of the Austrian Cultural Forum New York.
