Aaron Copland called Elliott Carter "one of America's most distinguished creative artists in any field."  With this concert, Sospeso and guest artists the Arditti Quartet celebrate Mr. Carter's 95th birthday, as well as the release of Mode Records' high-resolution Carter CD/DVD Quintets and Voices, featuring Sospeso, the Ardittis, and Ursula Oppens.

Four of Mr. Carter's recent works (including the Italian song cycle Tempo e Tempi, sung by soprano Lucy Shelton) mingle with newly written tribute works by an international group of leading composers, including Pierre Boulez, Elliott Sharp, and Christian Wolff

In their first New York appearance in several years, the Arditti Quartet—who "manage to say more in a couple of bow strokes than some concerts communicate in total" (Sunday Times)—perform Carter's latest string quartet and join forces with Sospeso for the Oboe Quartet, a treasure of the composer's latest works.

The concert also celebrates the release of Mode's CD/DVD Elliott Carter.  The composer-supervised recordings include the first recording of the Quintet for Piano and Strings, and the DVD features a filmed interview with Mr. Carter, Irvine Arditti, Ursula Oppens, and Sospeso's Joshua Cody, as well as Dutch director Frank Scheffer's stunning film of the Quintet.
